NEA Export worth 13 billion and import 2 billion in first 6 month

Kathmandu – In the first six months of the current fiscal year, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has exported electricity worth 13.38 billion rupees to India. During the same period, electricity worth Rs. 1.98 billion has been imported from India.

The authority has been exporting to India the electricity saved during the rainy season after consumption within the country. The authority is selling the IX to Indian company NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd-NVVN through competition in the day-ahead market and under a mid-term power agreement. NVN is selling the electricity in the state of Hariyana.

During the review period, 1.48 billion units of electricity have been exported. With the onset of dry season, the flow of water in rivers and streams decreased and the electricity production of hydropower projects decreased, now electricity is being imported from India to meet the domestic demand in the country.

According to the authority, domestic production has decreased to about 10 percent. Currently, 22.05 Corore units of electricity have been imported during the review period.
